Forty Niner Country Club

This well established club—under new ownership—is committed to providing a quality golf course and club, and is one of the most affordable clubs in town. The semi-private club is one of only 2 clubs on the northeast side of Tucson between the Catalina and Rincon Mountain ranges. The course and clubhouse at Forty Niner Country Club have both been recently renovated, and the club is currently building a new fitness center. The large swimming pool has also been recently resurfaced, completing this newly remodeled, modern club.

The Course

Located in northeast Tucson, this beautiful 18 hole course designed by William Francis Bell in 1961, meanders through mature mesquite groves and alongside one of the major “washes” in the Tucson area. Giant Cottonwood trees are found along the fairways adjacent to the washes. Extremely tall Eucalyptus or Pine Trees have been placed at the dogleg corners of short par 4’s to challenge long hitters with a tough shot go over them or demand a big draw or fade if a driver is used. There are minimal elevation changes, so it is a very nice course to walk. Bunkers, out of bounds, elevated greens, and water on 2 par 3’s make this a good test of golf for all skill levels. There are wonderful views of both the Catalina and Rincon Mountain ranges from numerous parts of the course. There are also Italian cypress, weeping willows and palm trees providing a lush oasis in the desert. The practice facilities include a driving range, and a chipping, bunker, and putting area. The golf shop carries name brand equipment, balls, bags, shoes and top quality apparel.

The Clubhouse

Forty Niner’s has recently upgraded the dining, bar and kitchen facilities, including adding a pizza oven, and new large screen TV’s for a comfortable, casual dining experience. There are also patio, poolside tables in addition to the spacious dining room. There are nightly menu specials as well as numerous holiday offerings and of course, a great Sunday brunch. The facilities are available for weddings, banquets and social activities. The Rincon Room is for small groups. Men’s and women’s locker rooms are on either side of the clubhouse.

Forty Niner History

There is a long history at Forty Niner Country Club, including the PGA hosting the Tucson Open here in 1963 and ’64. These were the only tournaments Jack Nicklaus played competitively in Tucson.

The Pool

The large lap pool is perfect for families and serious lap swimmers alike. It was newly resurfaced in the Spring of 2013. There are a couple of youth swim teams available. Poolside tables with views of the Catalina Mountains are a great place to have lunch while watching the kids.
